In honour of what I plan to be drinking tonight (gluwein), here's my favourite recipe for mulled wine. I posted this over to the August Cooks website back in early November, but I think it's such a great winter party drink and perfect for the holiday season.
Anna Olson's Mulled Wine
1 750ml bottle full-bodied red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz
1 cup clear apple cider or cranberry juice
4 tablespoons honey
2 fresh rosemary, plus extra for garnish
3 cinnamon sticks
3 whole star anise
3 whole cloves
3 whole peppercorns
1 orange, sliced
2 ounces brandy (optional)
Slowly bring all ingredients except brandy to just below a simmer. Keep below a simmer for 20 minutes, then stir in brandy (if using) and serve, garnishing each glass with a sprig of rosemary.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Mmm, this looks good. I shall have to try to make this soon.
Do you have a favourite wine to make this with?
I like going toward big fruity California reds. Last time I made this with a cab sauv that was heavy on the blackberry flavours. Just make sure it's not something oaky, and you're golden!
